Voluntarism in Focus
Project Aim and Objectives
Training Implementation – This phase consists of the implementation of a 4 days training that will bring together 25 young people. The training aims to empower youngsters and will equip them with adequate skills and knowledge regarding voluntarism. Through this training, participants will take an important role as promotors of voluntarism. This will be achieved using non-formal method tools of learning that will make possible for participants to get equipped with relevant knowledge about voluntarism as a concept and adequate skills about how to promote voluntarism as an act of solidarity and service for themselves and the community and especially with vulnerable community groups.
Follow-Up – In this phase, the trained participants will get engaged in their community with the aim to promote voluntarism and share their personal experiences as well as to ensure a wide dissemination of the project results among young people. Participants will have the space and the support to take actions and carry out their own activities among young people in their community, such as in schools, university, youth organizations, youth clubs and forums, etc.
This will be achieved mainly through online campaigning and face to face meetings with the community. Participants will have also the chance to carry out their own activities that they may come up and prepare during the training in the second phase. Participants will share materials prepared during the training and will work closely with young people from the community in order to change the negative stereotypes about voluntarism and promote volunteering as an act of solidarity and service for the community and as an opportunity of development and positive experience for young people. For this purpose, a well-designed online and offline awareness campaign will be implemented.

Voluntarism in Focus
This publication is a extract of the project "Voluntarism in Focus" implemented by Youth Activities Center in the local context in the city of Durres, Albania in a timeframe of six months starting from 1st of May 2021 and ending on 31 of October 2021. The project is a Pilot Activity supported by European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe. This project comes as a necessity of challenging the traditional definition of voluntarism in the community and especially among young people and youth workers who define voluntarism as a “job” that is offered “free” to the community or to special institutions/organisations rather than an act of solidarity and commitment in their benefit.
